Unregulated pollution has been a pressing issue in the state of Meghalaya. In a recent incident, residents living near Jaintia Coke Private Limited, a non-government organization listed with the Registrar of Companies in Shillong, have raised matters about unregulated air and water pollution.
Visuals of the unregulated pollution shared by a Twitter user followed with the caption: “#cokefactories coming up in hundreds in #Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district. Air and water Pollution goes #unchecked #pandemictimes”
Earlier this year, the NGT committee assigned the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) and the Deputy Commissioner to take decisive legal action against all illegal coke factories operating in West Khasi Hills.
