Pushing herself into another controversy, Actress Kangna Ranaut challenges court order by rejecting her call for a transfer of defamation case of Javed Akhtar.
Javed Akhtar files complaints against Kangna Ranaut:
Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint against Kangana Ranaut for her alleged ‘defamatory and baseless comments’ against him during a television discussion post the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. In December 2020, the court directed the Juhu police to conduct an inquiry into Akhtar’s complaint and subsequently an offence of defamation was prima facie made out and the court initiated criminal proceedings against the actress. The Bombay High Court had dismissed the plea filed by Kangana, seeking to quash the defamation case filed against her, based on the lyricist Javed Akhtar’s complaint. In the latest proceedings, Kangana Ranaut has filed a counter-complaint and made several new statements in the matter.
Complaint by Kangna Ranaut:
Recently, actress Kangna Ranaut has filed a fresh complaint in the Dindoshi sessions court, against the order passed by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court. She has challenged the rejection of her plea seeking transfer of all proceedings in a defamation case filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar against her. Kangana has filed a petition through her advocate, under section 408 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which deals with transfer cases and appeals.
The actress has reportedly alleged that the Andheri Magistrate harmed her image by stating, “If the applicant is not present for hearing on the next date, an arrest warrant will be issued against her”. The actress also alleged that the magistrate was biased. In her petition, the actress has alleged that the Andheri magistrate, who is hearing the defamation case against her, is biased against her. She also cited that her plea for permanent exemption is still pending. Through her counsel, Kangana stated that she had no faith in that specific court. Kangana’s case will be heard on January 27.
