Iron Beam ; ‘Star wars’ weapon
The Israel military is the world’s most efficient military and the government spends tons on its weapons and machines. The new technology that the Defence Ministry unveiled is somewhat called by the netizens as the Star Wars weapon – Iron Beam. This weapon has a laser that is so highly powered that it can take down mortars and UAV’s.
The ministry of defense od Israel has revealed that they had conducted a series of tests last month in which a laser beam was used to take down drones, mortars and anti tank missiles. These tests were conducted in an isolated area of Negev Desert. The iron beam is basically installed on the ground and aims to shoot aerial objects that poses a threat. It is designed to improve the aerial defence system of the country – iron dome, which is the world’s most expensive rocket interceptor.
The tests were conducted since last two to three months and the announcement was made in February by the Prime Minister of the country that they are trying to improve the lastest technology used in the forces in order to cut down prices on the technology that was otherwise used to take down aerial threats.
According to one of the tweets posted by the Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, “ This may sound like a science-fiction, but its real. The iron beam’s interceptions are silent, they are invisible and they only cost around $3.50 a piece.”
Initially, in the early years of 1990’s lasers were first used but later the government abandoned the notion. After the Lebanon war in 2006, iron dome was constructed as a measure to take down medium size rockets and missiles. But these iron dome proved to be very expensive and slowly government wanted to shift to a newer system that would be less expensive than the dome but at the same time would be more effective.
