IIT Guwahati Partners with Indian Council of World Affairs to Strengthen International Affairs and Foreign Policy Expertise

GUWAHATI, 19th July 2023: To boost international affairs and foreign policy capabilities, (the Indian Institute of Technology) IIT Guwahati signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 19th July 2023 with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). The MoU comes as an outcome of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar’s recent visit to the prestigious institution. The collaboration aims to expand awareness and knowledge in the realms of international affairs and Indian foreign policy and will be in effect for a period of 3 years.

The MoU was formally signed between Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, and Ambassador Vijay Thakur Singh, Director-General of ICWA. Both institutions share the common goal of working together to address global challenges and opportunities through collaborative interventions and the promotion of synergies on multiple fronts.

Empowering Stakeholders: Expanding Awareness on International Affairs

During the MoU signing event, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer expressed the significance of collaborative efforts in today’s interconnected world, emphasizing that the partnership with ICWA would be a significant step towards achieving their shared vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

The collaboration between IIT Guwahati and ICWA is expected to yield several positive outcomes. It aims to facilitate the intellectual development of stakeholders in universities, academic institutions, industries, and other partners in Assam by enhancing their awareness of international affairs and Indian foreign policy. The two institutions will also engage in joint studies on issues of common interest through mutually agreed modalities.

Hon’ble Vice President’s Vision: Fostering a World of Collaboration and Exploration

The Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is also the President of ICWA, had announced the collaboration during his address at the 25th Convocation of IIT Guwahati. He praised the partnership, noting that it would open a window for the institute to explore a world of a different nature.

The Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) is India’s premier and oldest think tank on foreign policy and international affairs, operating as an institute of national importance under the ICWA Act, 2001. With its extensive research-oriented activities, publications, bilateral dialogues, international conferences, and outreach activities, ICWA plays a pivotal role in shaping India’s perspective on international relations.

As a leading institute in the country, IIT Guwahati holds a prominent position in various national and international rankings. It boasts a vibrant academic community with eleven departments, nine interdisciplinary academic centers, and five schools offering a wide range of programs in engineering, science, healthcare, management, and humanities disciplines.

The collaboration with ICWA is set to strengthen IIT Guwahati’s global standing and contribute significantly to its research and innovation initiatives in various frontier areas, including genomics, developmental biology, healthcare, bioinformatics, and flexible electronics.
