Ahead of the India-Pakistan match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 on October 24, the official broadcaster of the tournament, Star Sports brings back the iconic ‘Mauka Mauka’ ad campaign with a twist.
It has left netizens amused after bringing back the ‘Mauka Mauka’ ad campaign.
The previous ad
The promo 1st introduced before the 2015 ICC World Cup, the ad is a combination of cheeky humour and friendly banter, making it funny and relatable.
Earlier the ad featured a Pakistani cricket fan, back in 1992 who bought a box of firecrackers to celebrate the country’s win against India but was unable to use them as India never lost to Pakistan in T20 World Cup games or the 50-over World Cup matches.
Initially the sports channel planned as a standalone commercial for India and Pakistan, the popularity after the release of its first advertisement encouraged the channel to come up with more similar ads.
And now, the channel has brought back the commercial with a funny twist ahead of the much awaited match between India and Pakistan which is scheduled on October 24.
The new ad
This time the ad begins with a man walking into his friend’s electronic store with a box of crackers to buy a big television set to watch the T20 World Cup series. The man was wearing a Pakistan cricket jersey.
But his friend shows him two TV sets saying that he could break one after his team loses. However, his friend is a supporter of the Indian team. The camera then shows the TV screen where a 2012 clip of the man breaking his TV screen after India’s win was being played.
Since being shared online the video shared on Twitter has garnered over 1 lakh views on the microblogging website.
