In a distressing incident, an 8-year old minor from Itkhola, Silchar, has allegedly been raped twice by her cousin since April. She is currently admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.
On Tuesday, June 22, the victim was admitted after allegedly being assaulted again by her cousin last week. The cousin had allegedly raped the minor first in the month of April. According to doctors, the condition of the victim, who is suffering from Severe Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), is critical.
The victim’s mother, who was aware of the first attack, didn’t file a Police Complaint as family members allegedly threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone. After the second attack, she lodged a complaint on June 22 against the accused, the son of her husband’s brother.
The DGP, Assam Police, has responded to the complaint and informed through the DGP Assam Twitter Handle that a case had been filed against the perpetrator under POCSO Act. He further mentioned that the accused has fled and is yet to be arrested. However, the police have detained the accused’s father for questioning while efforts are being made to arrest the accused.
