On Tuesday evening, amid tension in Shillong, the escort vehicles of Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik were attacked in the Mawlai region of the city.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. on the highway while the vehicles were returning from Guwahati Airport to Raj Bhawan in Shillong.
Unknown miscreants flung stones at two police escort vehicles and two official automobiles of the Raj Bhawan, causing damage. So far, no casualties have been recorded.

Violent protest in Meghalaya
Following the assassination of former HNLC rebel Chesterfield Thangkhiew, Meghalaya has seen violent riots.

After the state’s law and order situation deteriorated, the state authorities cut off internet access in four districts and imposed a curfew.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated that the overall situation in Shillong has improved and is now more tranquil. Following a bomb attack against the Chief Minister’s mansion on Sunday, the city is currently under curfew.

A police operation that resulted in the killing of Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, a former militant of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), has sparked a problem in Meghalaya.
Shillong was rocked by stone pelting, vandalism, and arson on Sunday, and the city was placed under curfew.
Lahkmen Rymbui, the Home Minister, has resigned, calling for a judicial investigation “to bring out the truth.” In four districts, the Internet has been shut for 72 hours, and central forces have been deployed.
