Cyclone Asani has reportedly changed its direction and is moving northwards in the next few hours of Wednesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department tweeted, “the Cyclone Asani lay centred at 0530 hrs IST, near lat 15.8 degrees North and 81.4 degrees East, about 40 km south of Machilipatnam. Likely to move nearly northwards for next few hours and recurve slowly NNEwards and emerge into west-central BoB off North AP coasts by night.”
The cyclone is further said to cause heavy rainfall on the Bay of Bengal coasts and extremely heavy rainfall on Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts on the 11th of May 2022.
The reports also say that the storm is expected to weaken by Thursday morning.
Ananda Kumar Das who is in charge of the Weather Bureau’s Cyclone Monitoring Division said, “we are expecting it to touch the coast on Wednesday morning. The impact may not be very severe, but people still need to be prepared.”
