A high alert was raised over a severe cyclonic storm Asani that was likely to hit and intensify on Sunday Morning. The Meteorological Department confirmed that the cyclonic storm may turn into a severe one later in the evening.

As per the statement released by the IMD, “deep depression formed over southwest Bay of Bengal, about 300 km west – southwest of Port Blair. To move northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over southeast Bay of Bengal by morning and into a severe cyclonic storm over eastern-central Bay of Bengal by evening today.”
According to the reports of the weather officials released in saturday stated that the cyclone Asani will not make landfall in either Odisha or Andhra Pradesh and will move parallel to the coast.
The weather department further mentioned that by tuesday coastal areas of Odisha and the capital city of West Bengal may receive light to moderate rainfall on tuesday.
Notice has also been issued to fishermen to not to venture into the sea till further notice.
