Bhaichung Bhutia on Sunday said Sikkimese should not let few greedy businessmen and corrupt politicians to destroy Sikkim.
In a press statement, Bhaichung recorded that the upcoming multi-storied complex on a PPP model at Gangtok could cause huge safety concern for the local people in the area and future generations as well.
The Padmashree and Arjuna awardee maintained that he was expressing his stand as a concerned citizen of Sikkim and for thousands of voiceless Sikkimese. I am not writing as a political person, Bhaichung Bhutia said.
Bhaichung Bhutia’s Statement
“Dr. Bina Basnett’s fight is not just for one project. The fight is against many multi-storey and skyscrapers coming to Sikkim in future.
If you allow one, it will open the flood gates for many to come in near future. I am not against the car park and shopping mall to be constructed.
The car park and shopping mall can be build in 5 to 6 floors but why do you want another 8 to 9 floors for casino and luxury hotel on top of it?
Sikkim is an earthquake prone area (Seismic zone 4). We keep getting frequent earthquakes.
This construction could create fear to the people living in that area and it might cause huge safety concern for our future generations as well,” said Bhaichung.
We as Sikkimese should not let few greedy businessmen and corrupt politicians to destroy our beautiful State. We will not let them play with ours and future generations’ lives. We will not give up our fight to save our blessed Sikkim,” said Bhaichung.
