Theni District in Tamil Nadu sees an unusual event as a family holds a baby shower for their pet dog. The viral picture shows the dog draped in red cloth and red tilak on her forehead, with a garland of yellow flowers around her neck.
She is surrounded and smothered with love by family members.

The social media viral image appears to be from a baby shower ritual the family conducted. The dog’s name is Silk and the family says they had brought her in three years ago when she was just a puppy.
Silk seemed to show discomfort, so Kumaresan, a family member decided to take her to the veterinarian, where they were informed that their dog was pregnant and would deliver puppies in three months.
The family decided to throw a baby shower for Silk and made it a grand event, with relatives and neighbours invited. Silk was dressed in new clothes and wore bangles. She was also fed different kinds of rice.
Kumaresan says, “I have been having dogs from childhood. They are more than a pet, they have always been a family member. Whatever we eat, we share with our pets. So, when we came to know that Silk was pregnant we wanted to hold a proper baby shower (for her)”.
