Since April this year, when the state’s second wave of the epidemic began, 34,606 youngsters under the age of 18 have been infected with Covid19, according to health officials in Assam. Since April 1, the state of Assam has registered 280,504 cases of Covid19, according to a notification from the National Health Mission. While 5755 of the instances were children under the age of five, 28851 involved youngsters aged six to eighteen.
While talking to the press in Nagaon, health minister keshab mahanta stated, “in view of the circumstances, we have increased pediatric icu units and oxygen beds for children in medical college hospitals, district hospitals. these facilities are being set up immediately and will take 14-21 days to complete,”
Since April, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, which encompasses Guwahati, has recorded 5346 cases among youngsters, accounting for 10.04 percent of the 53,251 cases found in the district during that time.
Dibrugarh (2430), Nagaon (2288), Kamrup (Rural) (2023) and Sonitpur (1839) districts also had high number of cases among children. The state recorded 34 deaths of children infected with Covid19 since April. According to NHM, many of them had co-morbid conditions and were below 5 years.
