A 22-year-old-man’s body was found hanged along the Indo-Bhutan border in Tamulpur subdivision of Assam’s Baksa district after being reported missing 11 days ago. He reportedly went out to meet his girlfriend secretly on the night of June 27 and hasn’t returned ever since.
The deceased’s body, identified as Bishnu Magar, was discovered in a semi-decomposed state hanging on a hilltop near Bogajuli village. On the night of June 27, he went to Menaka Tea Garden near Darangamela along the border to meet his girlfriend, but the girl’s family found out about it and lashed out at Bishnu. Reportedly, they warned him to go back and also snatched his phone.
Bishnu’s family filed a missing person’s complaint at the Kumarikata Police outpost after he didn’t show up. The police carried out an investigation, and after receiving information from locals, they were able to find Bishnu’s dead body on July 7.
The deceased’s family and the Tea Garden Students’ union have termed it a pre-planned murder painted as suicide. They demanded severe punishment for the ones responsible.
Police, as of yet, have arrested four suspects, namely Rajdeep Das, Bhakta Gaur, Bicky Deori, and Juhal Sarkar. A senior official in Assam on July 8 investigated the spot where the deceased’s body was found to determine whether it was a murder or suicide.
