Assam: Tarani Barowari Mahotsav, which happens in the Autumn season in Rangia commenced this year on 18th November, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm that includes cultural events and colorful plays. The Rash Mela depicts the life story of Lord Sri Krishna and union with the Gopi Dance & songs is expressed throughout the Rash Leela.
How did this Rash Mahotsav start in Assam?
Tarani Barowari Rash Mahotsav was started in the year 1935 by some religious preachers, the event take place in the month of ‘Aghon’ on ‘Purnima tithi’. The entire event is based on the Rash Leela of Lord Sri Krishna. This time the Rash Mahotsav has been shortened to 7 days instead of 9 days due to the Covid situation.

The Rash Mahotsav includes several other events like Theatre, Bhagwath path, Culture Nights, Dance Competition, etc.
The theatre attracted lots of crowds but most of them flouting all covid rules. The Mela has also attracted a fair bit of crowd. People seem to have enjoyed the rides like the Giant Wheel etc.
