Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif’s seamless efforts of securing a win in the NatWest Trophy final were so spectacular and it was on this very day 19 years ago. It is, very much, still considered as special as on that day.
The Men in Blue was lost of all hope and had lost all the key wickets of Dravid, Tendulkar, and Mongia very cheaply. Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed in the 24th over. England had set an impossible target of 325/5 to chase.
Efforts of Ganguly and Virender Sehwag came in short but the young duo of Kaif and Yuvraj with their partnership of 121 runs gave India the honourable and thrilling win. Yuvraj managed to score 69 runs and Kaif had put on a strong upfront and remained unbeaten on 87 off 75 balls.
Celebrations soon erupted after Zaheer Khan had hit the winning run and Sourav Ganguly, unable to hold his happiness on the balcony of Lord’s Cricket Ground, took off his shirt to “celebrate the win in style.”
