The Republic Day 2022 parade featured many firsts from the Indian defence forces, putting women in the spotlight.

Lt. Manisha Bohra of the Army Ordnance Corps led the all-male contingent at the Rajpath parade on Republic Day for the first time.

“I’ve seen my seniors do it, so getting the chance to do it myself is a source of pride for me,” Manisha explained.

First Female in Rafale fighter jet pilot
Shivangi Singh, India’s first female Rafale fighter jet pilot, was among the Indian Air Force’s tableau at the Republic Day parade on Wednesday. She is only the second female fighter jet pilot in the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) history.

Third woman to lead
Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma will never forget that moment, after all, leading a Navy contingent in the Republic Day parade is no easy task.

Aanchal Sharma, an observer officer assigned to INAS 314, led a contingent of 96 young sailors and four officers, including herself.
