In a peculiar incident, a 19-year-old woman falsely accused an autorickshaw driver of rape, hoping to salvage her relationship with her boyfriend. According to Njarakkal police, the woman, a migrant, filed a complaint on December 21, alleging that during an autorickshaw ride, she fainted due to low blood pressure.
Woman falsely accuses Auto Driver of Rape
Upon regaining consciousness, she claimed to find herself half-naked, accusing the driver of sexual assault.
The police promptly took the 58-year-old autorickshaw driver into custody, initially believing the woman’s account. However, subsequent investigations revealed the entire story to be a fabrication. The medical examination disproved any signs of sexual assault, and statements from witnesses indicated that the driver had dropped the woman near Vypeen beach, where she walked independently around 5:30 pm on the alleged date.
Njarakkal Station House Officer (SHO) shed light on the woman’s motive, saying, “The girl lodged a complaint believing her boyfriend would stay with her and sort things out if she faced any problem.”
The boyfriend, involved in a month-long live-in relationship, was apparently showing disinterest as he had to attend his brother’s marriage in Kottayam the following week. Unwilling to accept his departure and lacking family support, the woman resorted to the false accusation, thinking it would keep her boyfriend occupied and enable her to continue staying with him.
As of now, the police are deliberating whether to register a case against the woman for misusing the law and putting an innocent person in trouble. The officer remarked, “She misused the law and put a person in trouble. So far, we haven’t registered a case against her. We will take action based on the directive from our superiors.”
