On the first day on the job, a traffic constable stopped the Assam Chief Minister’s convoy and will face consequences.

The traffic constable was Prafulla Hazarika, a traffic constable of Dispur Police Station.

Furthermore, the incident took place three days ago and he stopped CM Sarma’s convoy in front of Taj Vivanta for two minutes.

Since the incident, Prafulla Hazarika, a traffic constable with the Dispur Police Station, has been placed on ‘reserve closed.’

Meanwhile, sources claim he was simply doing his job and should not be held in reserve.

CM’s convoy can be halted if necessary: Assam Cabinet

The Assam cabinet had decided that traffic on any road cannot be disrupted by any traffic constable for the chief minister’s carcade from now on and that it may be halted if necessary but for no more than two minutes, and that an ambulance will always take precedence over the CM’s carcade.

Moreover, the chief minister’s entourage, which currently consists of 22-23 vehicles (escort, security, and other officials’ vehicles), will be reduced to seven to eight vehicles.

Sarma announced the change on New Year’s Day, claiming that at a meeting, the state cabinet decided to limit the number of automobiles in his convoy.

“It was decided to reduce the chief minister’s entourage in the city to around 7-8 automobiles,” he said. “Even if a minister accompanies me on the journey, he or she is under no obligation to bring their own convoy into the city.”

Koi raja, maharaja aaraha hain kya?: Himanta Biswa Sarma to Nagaon DC for halting traffic during his visit

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, chastised the officials involved for halting traffic and causing inconvenience to the public during his visit, “despite clear direction” to do so.

When long traffic was seen in Nagaon during Assam Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit to the area, he struggled to keep his cool.

He reprimanded the region’s deputy commissioner (DC) and later stated that “VIP culture” is unacceptable in “today’s Assam.”

In a video shared, Sarma can be seen yelling for the Nagaon region’s DC, enraged by the traffic.

“Arrey DC sahab yeh kya natak hain. Kyun gadi ruka hain? Koi raja, maharaja aaraha hain kya? (What is this drama? Why are the cars stuck in traffic? Is a king or emperor coming for a visit?),” he asked the deputy commissioner.
