The influential Catholic Church’s Thrissur Archdiocese has targeted Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Moreover, in an article published its publication, the Archdiocese of Thrissur sharply criticised the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi’s methods and functions.

The article criticised Rahul Gandhi‘s decision to not run for party president and instead appear as a hypocrite, highlighting the Congress party’s lack of leadership.

It further stated that the days of winning based solely on the name “Gandhi” are long gone. In light of recent election polls, the piece predicted that if the Congress party does not change its methods, India will soon become a ‘Hindusthan’ of the Sangh Parivar forces.

Meanwhile, the article was published in ‘Catholic Sabha’ titled ‘Is the Congress party distancing itself from the proposed national alternative?’

AAP is the new national opposition to the BJP

Moreover, the article also pointed out that the ongoing factional feud in the Kerala unit of the Congress, according to the article, is aiding the BJP’s aim of a “Congress Mukt Bharat.”

However, the article described AAP as the national alternative to BJP, calling Congress a “mere spectator.”

Furthermore, the Thrissur Catholic diocese is believed to be the most powerful among the state’s dioceses, and it has a history of making strong political statements.

Christians account for 61.41 lakh (29.94 lakh men and 31.47 lakh females) of Kerala’s 33.4 million people, according to the census data. Along with almost a dozen other Churches, Catholics account for up to 50% of the total.

Diocese of Thrissur

The diocese was established in 1982, comprising parishes in the districts of Trichur and Palakkad. Meanwhile, there were 32 parishes and 26 priests when the diocese was established.

Further, on December 26, 1990, the first metropolitan with independent responsibility for the diocese took office. In 1995, on 20th July the current diocesan headquarters was constructed.

Meanwhile, the ecclesiastical province of Thrissur covers 2,000 square kilometres and includes the metropolitan Thrissur archdiocese as well as the suffragan dioceses of Irinjalakuda and Palakkad.

Trichur, Kerala’s cultural hub, is the ecclesiastical province’s capital. Moreover, the Hindus make up the majority of the population.

The Christian faith can be traced back to St. Thomas’ Apostolate, which landed at Crangannore (Kodungallur) in the present-day region of Trichur in 52 AD. He is said to have founded the first church in India in Palayoor, according to legend.

The current archdiocese of Trichur began as an apostolic vicariate on May 20, 1887, was elevated to a diocese in 1923 and was elevated to a Metropolitan See in 1995.

Until the dioceses of Palghat and Irinjalakuda were split in 1974 and 1978, it was India’s largest diocese in terms of the Catholic population.

During Pope John Paul II’s 1986 visit to Trichur, the most ancient diocese of the Syro-Malabar Church, the significance of Trichur as the cradle of Christianity in India was reaffirmed.

The name ‘Trichur’ is an anglicised version of the Malayalam name for the town, ‘Thri-Siva-Perur,’ which means Lord Siva’s town. Trichur’s major grandeur comes from Vadakunnathan Temple (Vadakunnathan, Lord of the North, is a Siva name), which dominates the town’s landscape.

Moreover, the Malayalam language is spoken. English is widely spoken and understood, as it is a compulsory subject in public schools.

Meanwhile, winter, summer, southwest monsoon, and northeast monsoon are the four seasons that Thrissur experiences.

The maximum temperature in the coastal areas is 32 degrees Celsius, with a low of 22 degrees Celsius. During the summer, the interiors reach a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.

However, Thrissur is a seaside town in Kerala that is located in the state’s central region.
