About Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and studio entrepreneur. Steven Spielberg was born on 18th December 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Leah, his mother, was a restaurateur and concert pianist. Arnold Spielberg, his father, was an electrical engineer.
Steven has won three Academy Awards for his work as a director and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, for his contribution to cinema. For both Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, he has won Best Director.
Also, Steven was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015, for his contributions to cinema and US culture.
About his career
When Spielberg was only 16 he created his first film, a sci-fi film titled Firelight. He was very passionate about making movies. His first homemade movie was when he was just 12 years old, he used an 8-bit camera to make a movie about a train crash.
He was one of the youngest television directors for Universal. Steven, is not just the highest-grossing director, but also the second-richest movie director in the world.
Today, on his birthday let’s rewind some of his most influential and iconic works:-
1) E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982):
Steven, created a childhood classic and one of the greatest movies of all times. It’s a movie which makes us laugh and cry. It portrayed the importance of childhood and children.
The alluring sci-fi plot, about a child who deals with his parents divorce and about an alien just looking to go back home. And they both become friends, with the little boy’s help to return the extra-terrestrial to its home planet. It was a huge success at the box office and even went on to win four Academy Awards.
2) Jaws (1975) :
Jaws is considered the first summer blockbuster in cinematic history and was the first to earn over $100 million at the box office.
With limited technology during his initial days, Steven made a classic horror movie. It was about a giant shark who terrorized a small beach town, the responsibility falls on a sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old sailor to hunt and kill the vicious beast.
The movie maintains its major element to scare, scare and scare the audience.
3) Jurassic Park (1993) :
Jurassic Park is a masterpiece which took the world by storm and still remains to be Spielberg’s highest-grossing film.
It is a sci-fi action-adventure that converts the dreams of many into reality. With an island theme park with dinosaurs on the screen. To top it with special effects such as the terrifying image of the T-Rex glaring into the jeep window.
4) Schindler’s List (1993) :
Talking about a historical masterpiece, the Schindler’s List, talks about the Jewish lives during the Second World War.
Based on a true story of a German businessman who saved more than a 1000 Jewish lives by providing them refuge in his factory during the Second World War. It was awarded 7 Oscars.
5) Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) :
The first film in the famous Indiana Jones series. It is a perfectly crafted adventure movie where archaeologist Indiana Jones is in the search for an ancient artifact, the Ark of the Covenant with the Nazis on his tail.
Spielberg redefined the action-adventure genre with “Raiders”. Once during an interview Spielberg said he had “one of the best times of my life on this picture”, getting to work with the stars and creators behind it.
Steven Spielberg is the most popular and influential filmmaker since the dawn of contemporary American cinema. He is not just an amazing person in his profession but also a great human being. Spielberg didn’t accept any payment for his work on the film Schindler’s List. He stated that any money accepted from this movie will be “blood money,” considering the Holocaust.
From a little kid who suffered from a disorder, and was bullied in school to a man who earned an unbelievable profit from his first film. Spielberg remains to be one of the top directors in the world, who will be remembered by the World Cinema forever.
