Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal had an agreement with Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (HCSL) for Ship Repair Facility (Slipway) at Pandu, Guwahati.
Sonowal regards this as a “Landmark moment for Assam and North East”.

“I am glad to be joined on this occasion by CM Himanta Biswa, MoS Shantanu & other dignitaries,” he said.
The Ship Repair Facility (Slipway) at Pandu Port will address the issue of lack of repair facility/drydocking at present in the North East.
This will avert unnecessary large commercial transport of goods to Kolkata for repairs saving travel length of 2,500 km and 35-40 days voyage period.
Renovate connectivity in the region
However, under the resourceful leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi, 20 National Waterways of North East are being created, which will renovate connectivity in the region.
“Ongoing works on the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers are just the beginning of enhanced trade and economic ties” he stated.

He also said, the push for development is making the North East, the Growth Engine of New India, and waterways will be further one of the most important routes to achieve the vision of progress.
