Offline classes are likely to resume from September 1 in Schools and colleges in Assam for classes 10, 12 and final semester students. Ranoj Pegu, Assam education minister notified the reporters regarding this in Guwahati yesterday. Vaccination is however made mandatory as only fully vaccinated students and teachers would be allowed to take part in the physical classes.

No decision regarding lower classes yet
The state education minister said that a final decision on the resumption of offline classes is awaiting agreement of the Assam cabinet. Pegu said that a special SOP is being drawn up for the resumption of classes in schools and colleges. Additionally, Pegu mentioned that no decision has been taken as of yet for the resumption of lower classes.
It must be highlighted that, Assam State Education Department, previously, had said that Schools and Colleges in Assam will not reopen until the positivity rate dips below 2 %.
75 percent reservation of AHSEC students not applicable to Urban Areas
Meanwhile, the Assam government has decided to nullify its initial decision for the reservation of 75 percent of all seats in government colleges for UG courses for AHSEC students. Pegu also noted that this will only be applicable to urban areas as 75 percent reservation of seats in colleges for students of AHSEC will not be applied in the said areas.
