A residential building collapsed in Mumbai’s Bandra West late on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring 16 others.
The event was reported from the city’s Shastri Nagar region, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Moreover, the injured were immediately taken to the hospital and treated.
The BMC responded to the tragedy on Twitter, saying, “Unfortunately, one person died in the G+2 house fall at Shastri Nagar and has been declared dead on arrival. Their family is in our thoughts and prayers. Minor injuries were sustained by 16 people who were admitted to the hospital. Rescue activities are still ongoing while we wait for more information on the other people who have been hurt.”
People suspected to be trapped in the residential building
Meanwhile, as the rescue activities were underway, at least three to four persons were suspected to be trapped in the debris (residential building), according to the BMC.
“A G+2 structure has collapsed at Shastri Nagar, Bandra West. Few people have been shifted to the hospital. 3-4 suspected to be trapped in the debris. Rescue operations are underway. The exact numbers awaited from the hospital,” said an initial tweet by the BMC.
