Shahil Dey, belonging to Assam is the first-ever chess International Master from the North East region. The chess prodigy, who started to participate in competition at the age of five in Guwahati, scored 5 points from 8 rounds and got the norm with around spare.
Even at a young age, he has represented India at various competitions. He played his last round game against Grandmaster Pacher Milan of Slovakia and also completed his rating requirement. The meet has been concluded in Budapest in Hungary today. With this performance, Shahil became the first International chess Master from North East.
Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has congratulated Shahil and wished him for all his future endeavors. He is also a National Child Award Winner for his achievements in Chess.
