On Friday, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said that population norms will be strictly followed while giving benefits of government schemes. He will also place certain conditions for the waiver of the loans.
Sarma said, ‘We will strictly implement the population norms even in the Orunodoi scheme for all except tea tribes, SC and ST. We will initially keep the numbers on the higher end, but eventually, it will be limited to having only 2 children. Further added, “I have announced election rallies in my capacity as a BJP candidate and not as a government. However, since I have made the commitments I will do the needful”.
He said after a discussion with the National Finance Institute, the loan amount has been lessening to Rs 8350 crores from Rs 12000 crores.
Further Sarma said that the loan waiver will be made in three categories- the first category prompts payers with regular payback, for the second who were prompt payers, now there overdue will be exempted and for the last women who could not clear off their loan, the remaining amount will be fully exempted.
