PhD Programme Admission IIT Guwahati

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, a National Institute, has announced Postgraduate Admissions for the July 2022 Session. 

Doctoral/MTech/MDes/MS(R)/MA programmes are among the PG programmes offered.

PhD

Total Number of seats-

The total number of PhD seats available for the July 2022 session is 556. There are 41 special seats for PhD students. programmes under the CSIR/UGC JRF Scheme, including 20 dual degree PhD seats.

Regular and Full Time, Sponsored and Full Time, Employed and Part-Time, Self-Financed and Full Time, Self-Financed and Part-Time, Project Staff and Full Time, Project Staff and Part-Time, External and Part-Time, and Self-Financed and Full-Time Foreign Students are all eligible for PhD programmes.

PhD Joint Degree Program with IIT (BHU):

This is the first of its sort at an IIT. Students admitted to this joint degree PhD programme (JDP) would work on the stated research proposals under the joint supervision of faculty members from both IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU).

-In terms of disciplines and categories, PwD candidates are given 5% of the available seats.

-Candidates in the non-regular category are limited to occupying a maximum of 10% of the available seats.

PhD

PhD Stipend on a Regular Full-Time Basis-

At the moment, the Institute offers ordinary full-time PhD students a monthly assistantship of Rs. 31,000 for the first two years and Rs. 35,000 for the next three years.

They are given financial assistance/scholarships by IIT Guwahati or fellowships by CSIR/UGC or any other approved funding organisation.

Financial assistance/scholarships from the Institute or fellowships from external funding agencies are awarded to them in accordance with the Institute’s governing guidelines and are conditioned on good academic progress and performance in allocated teaching assistant duties.

To be eligible for an assistantship/scholarship from the Institute or a fellowship from the relevant external funding source, these candidates must meet the following requirements, unless exempted.

Candidates with a four-year Bachelor’s degree (BE/BTech/BDes or similar) must have a valid and qualified GATE score (CEED score in case of the Department of Design).

Candidates having an MSc degree as a qualifying degree must have a valid and qualifying GATE score or a valid CSIR-NET(JRF)/ INSPIRE/ NBHM-PhD qualification, among other qualifications.

Candidates with an MA in Humanities and Social Sciences or equivalent qualification must have a valid UGC-NET qualification.

Candidates holding a qualifying degree like a Bachelor’s (BTech/BDes) degree or Masters’ (MA/MSc) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale are free from the necessity of a valid GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.
