Pakistan gets first female judge: Justice Ayesha Malik

Pakistan has its first female judge, Justice Ayesha Malik who is creating history for the country. 

As per report, The Judicial Commission of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed approved the promotion of Justice Ayesha Malik by a majority of five votes against four. 

Justice Ayesha Malik’s promotion 

Reportedly, the JCP for the second time conducted a meeting to discuss Justice Ayesha Malik’s promotion. Due to a four-to-four tie previously on 9 September her name was first brought up for consideration but was ultimately rejected. 

Maleeka Bokhari, a politician of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and parliamentary secretary for law, wrote on Twitter, “An important & landmark milestone in our country as a talented lawyer & renowned judge has become Pakistan’s first female SC judge.” 

About Justice Ayesha Malik 

Justice Ayesha Malik is an LLM graduate from Harvard Law School. She was a partner at a leading corporate and commercial law firm before her elevation to the Lahore High Court as a judge in 2012.  

Justice Ayesha Malik is known for her honesty and integrity. She has ruled on a number of important constitutional problems, such as asset reporting in elections, payments to sugarcane growers, and the enforcement of international arbitration in Pakistan.
