According to a new US report, Pakistan failed to take appropriate steps to combat terrorism and punish terrorists, including the masterminds of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) founder Masood Azhar and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Sajid Mir. Pakistan also made “limited progress” in fulfilling its vow to dissolve all terrorist organisations without delay or discrimination, according to the report.

Country Reports on Terrorism

In its 2020 ‘Country Reports on Terrorism,’ the US State Department claimed, “Pakistan made limited progress on the most difficult aspects of its 2015 National Action Plan to counter-terrorism, specifically in its pledge to dismantle all terrorist organizations without delay or discrimination.”

A Lahore anti-terrorism court convicted LeT founder Hafiz Saeed on various counts of terrorism financing and sentenced him to five years and six months in prison in February and November, according to the US report, but failed to take action against other terrorist leaders.
