The Government of Assam will not issue any fresh SOPs about COVID-19 and its follow-up as long as the circumstances of COVID-19 in the state of Assam remain to be ‘controllable’. The statement was made by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.

He also said that that starting from January 1, 2022, all students irrespective of which year they’re in will be able to reside in hostels.

CM Sarma’s Statement

“We will have to learn living with COVID-19 around. It will not disappear. Since there is the least mortality right now, we have to maintain safety but not necessarily any restrictions unless it’s the Omicron Variant of the Virus,” said Sarma, regarding the rising of COVID-19 cases in Educational Institutions.

Furthermore, he said, “We are not planning or thinking for any COVID-19 related SOPs in the state. We desire to move away from SOPs. But, if there is a rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state, we will think about SOPs then.”
