There will be no Assam Bandh on Republic day 2022 as decided by ULFA (I).
The United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA-Independent has decided not to call bandh. The organization has also decided not to conduct any armed protests this year on 26 January.
Paresh Baruah informed about this through a communique.
CM Sarma appealed the organization for no Assam Bandh
Reportedly, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier appealed the organization not to declare any band or issue any boycott call.
Further, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted informing the same and requested the organization to come forward for a meaningful discussion with the Government of India.
Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, ”I welcome ULFA’s decision not to call a bandh and desist from any resistance during Republic Day. I take this opportunity to once again appeal to Shri Paresh Baruah to come forward for a meaningful discussion with the Govt of India.”
The decision has been made for the first time since 1996
The ULFA-I had taken the decision for the first time since 1996, to not call a bandh during Republic Day celebrations this year.
Also last year, the ULFA-I had not called any bandh on the occasion of Independence Day too . The outfit has declared a ceasefire from May 15, 2021, which is being renewed at regular intervals.
