On Thursday, August 26, gold medalist Neeraj Chopra uploaded a video on Twitter where he said he was “extremely disappointed at the reactions” to the comments he made in an interview recently.
What actually happened at the Olympics final ?
In a recent interview to the Times of India, gold medalist Neeraj Chopra had revealed that he was unable to find his Javelin before his first throw. This was because Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem had taken his Javelin. This was the reason Neeraj could be seen taking this first throw in a hurry.
The Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner tweeted “I would request everyone to please not use me and my comments as a medium to further your vested interests and propaganda. Sports teaches us to be together and united. I’m extremely disappointed to see some of the reactions from the public on my recent comments.”
Neeraj explains why it was not wrong for Nadeem to take his javelin
He also said that Arshad Nadeem taking his javelin was not wrong in any way and all the things that transpired on the final were in line with the rules, and there was no need to blow it out of proportions.
“A big issue has been made over my remarks in an interview. All the personal javelins are kept in one place, where any thrower can use it, this is the rule. There was nothing wrong with him (Arshad Nadeem) taking my javelin and preparing for his throw. Before my throw, I asked him for it. I’m sad that a big issue is being made out of my comments. I request everyone not to do this,” Neeraj said in the video.
