On Sunday, tensions in Nagaland rose when armed forces personnel allegedly killed 13 people in Tiru village in Mon district.
What happened?
The incident happened in Mon district’s Tiru village, when security personnel apparently mistook these people for suspected NSCN insurgents.
According to reports, security personnel assaulted the victims after mistaking them for members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).
CM Neiphiu Rio’s appeal and stand
Following this, the district’s situation has become tense, prompting Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to appeal to the people to keep the peace.
Local residents reportedly stepped out of their homes following the tragedy and began protesting, stating that those killed in the incident were innocent.
They were on their way home from a nearby coal mine, according to residents.
Condemning this, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio assured the SIT investigation and tweeted:
