Nagaland Armed Force Attack: Government officially cancels Hornbill Festival, 2021

Nagaland: On Tuesday, the Nagaland Cabinet has officially decided to cancel the ongoing Hornbill Festival, 2021 as a mark of respect to the attack in Mon district by the armed forces

Reportedly, the decision was taken at the emergency Cabinet meeting held today.

Nagaland Tourism officially announces on Twitter

While announcing to Twitter the Tourism officials stated, “As a mark of respect to our brothers slain at Oting, Mon and in solidarity with the bereaved families, all festivities at the Hornbill Festival 2021 have been officially cancelled.”

“To the travellers and tourists here with us during this time of sorrow, we deeply regret the unforeseen inconveniences caused to you by this tragedy. We only hope that through this experience, you will share in our grief and come to understand our story.” 

CM Rio demands to remove AFSPA

Rio said, “I have spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Ministry. The Centre has taken the matter very seriously. Bue we have demanded the Central government to remove AFSPA from Nagaland. This law has blackened the image of our largest democratic country as it’s against human rights.”

On Sunday, after getting to know about the event he rushed to Delhi as he went to meet Shah to continue the Naga peace talks.

T Yepthomi, NDPP (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party) MP from Nagaland in Lok Sabha said, “An inquiry should be initiated. The state government has given ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each to the families of the victims. The Centre should also give adequate compensation to the affected families.”

State mourns for the innocent

Prime Minister Modi also held a meeting with the top ministers in the Parliament over the firing incident on Monday. Also the state, Nagaland has been seen mourning over the innocents meanwhile arranging the funeral for them.
