The Assam cabinet today decided to improve its mobile network coverage by collaborating with network providers to establish more mobile towers in the state to facilitate students’ education, which has been switched to the online medium because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Information Technology Department was urged to commence the process of tower installation and request network providers for simple internet connectivity across the state during the weekly cabinet meeting, which was led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Students have been taking online lessons while schools and institutions in the state have been closed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The state board examinations for grades 10 and 12 in Assam have also been canceled this year. Assam’s summer break ended on June 14th.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to give all Assam Police officers, from sub-inspectors to constables, a month’s paid leave each year to visit their families. Every year, officials who live in police quarters with their families will be granted ten days of vacation.
The council of ministers also determined that MLA Padma Hazarika will be promoted to cabinet status for her work as the chairman of a committee tasked with utilizing 77,000 bighas of land in Gorukhuti, Sipajhar, for agricultural purposes.
