Assam Cabinet Approves Game-Changing Insurance Scheme

In a landmark move to support state government employees, the Assam cabinet, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a comprehensive insurance scheme. This policy ensures that employees and their families are financially protected in case of accidental deaths, permanent disabilities, or partial disabilities.

While addressing the media in Lakhimpur, CM Sarma emphasized that the new scheme is designed to provide significant financial security for government employees who face risks in the line of duty. The plan covers a wide range of accidents, from road mishaps to natural disasters, with a substantial payout to victims or their families.

Rs 1 Crore Compensation for Accidental Deaths and Disabilities

Under this new insurance agreement, in the event of an accidental death or permanent disability, the employee’s family will receive Rs 1 crore. This substantial compensation is aimed at providing relief and stability to affected families. “This is a big step and will bring respite to our employees in case of untimely deaths while carrying out official works,” Sarma said.

Employees who suffer partial disabilities will also be compensated, with a payout of Rs 80 lakh. This ensures that even in less severe cases, affected employees are supported adequately, allowing them to cope with the financial burdens caused by accidents or injuries.

The Assam government has gone further by including a provision for deaths caused by illnesses. In these cases, families will receive an additional Rs 10 lakh from banks, on top of the Rs 1 crore insurance for accidental deaths. This makes the policy a comprehensive security net for government employees.

Insurance Payments to Be Credited via Banks

CM Sarma highlighted the logistical ease of the scheme, explaining that the insurance amount will be credited directly to the victims’ salary accounts through agreements with all banks. This streamlined process ensures that families can access the funds quickly during difficult times.

The insurance policy adds to the numerous benefits already offered by the Assam government to its employees. Life insurance of Rs 10 lakh, accidental death coverage of Rs 1 crore, and Rs 80 lakh for partial disabilities are just some of the provisions that will bring peace of mind to government workers.

A Bold Initiative to Protect Government Workers

The Assam cabinet’s decision underscores the state government’s commitment to protecting its employees, ensuring that their families are not left in financial distress following accidents or other unfortunate events. CM Sarma reiterated that the measure will act as a “security system” for government employees, offering a vital layer of protection during crises.

With this groundbreaking insurance scheme, Assam’s state government is setting a new standard for employee welfare. The Rs 1 crore coverage for accidents and disabilities, coupled with additional benefits for illness-related deaths, reflects the government’s dedication to safeguarding its workforce. The initiative will no doubt be welcomed by thousands of employees across the state, offering them peace of mind and financial security.
