The pandemic has hit the economic situation of individuals, and school fees have become a burden. In a recent development, Madhya Pradesh school education minister Inder Singh Parmar made an insensitive and shocking remark when approached by the parents’ union in Bhopal about overcharging by schools. The minister allegedly said, “Maro jao (Go die)” when asked for a solution as they could not meet the extra expenses.
Under Madhya Pradesh Palak Mahasangh, about 90-100 parents met the minister at his official residence in Bhopal. The schools, the parents alleged, were charging hefty fees in violation of High Court orders, which stated that schools could only charge tuition fees during the pandemic.
When asked what they should do if the school education department refused to hear their plea, the minister was angered and allegedly said, “Go and die, do whatever you wish to.”
Parents and the state’s opposition Congress have demanded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan remove Mr Parmar from his position if he doesn’t resign.
