Workplace abuse has been on the rise lately in Assam. In a recent incident, a senior official of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has been arrested on the charges of rape based on the complaint lodged by the victim.
The arrested official was identified as Nihar Prasad Sharma who was working as a Deputy General manager at NRL. The complaint/FIR lodged by the victim alleged that Prasad on July 19 spiked her drink and had raped her inside the NRL campus.

It is noteworthy that, the victim had filed a complaint to the higher authorities of NRL, but according to reports, the company tried to suppress the matter. The NRL employees’ association had also tried to get the attention of NRL’s chief general manager regarding the case. However, the outcomes were vague.
