A 28 feet by 6 feet tall statue of Netaji will be installed at the India gate to mark his 125th birth anniversary.
Reportedly, the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue will be placed at the spot that once featured a statue of England’s King George V.
Later, that statue was removed and shifted in 1968.
Grand granite statue to be placed at India gate
PM Narendra Modi said a grand granite statue will be installed at India Gate. But until the statue is ready, a hologram of Netaji will be put up at the spot .
PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “At a time when the entire nation is marking the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I am glad to share that his grand statue, made of granite, will be installed at India Gate. This would be a symbol of India’s indebtedness to him.”
He further adds, “Till the grand statue of Netaji Bose is completed, a hologram statue of his would be present at the same place. I will unveil the hologram statue on January 23, Netaji’s birth anniversary.”
“This is a befitting tribute to the legendary Netaji, who gave everything for India’s freedom,” said Union home minister Amit Shah.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted about the decision. He said, “I wholeheartedly welcome PM Narendra Modi’s decision to install Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand statue at India Gate. One of the tallest figures of India’s Freedom Movement, this will be a fitting tribute to Netaji’s rich legacy of courage and sacrifice.”
Netaji birth anniversary will mark start of Republic Day
Recently, the government had announced that Netaji’s birth anniversary i.e., on 23rd January would mark the start of Republic Day celebrations instead of a day later.
Also, Netaji’s birthday was named as “Parakram Divas”.
The celebrations for Republic day will take place on the renovated Rajpath, the ceremonial road connecting India Gate to the British-built Rashtrapati Bhawan.
