Mr. Satyam, a PhD Scholar from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), has clinched the “Best Product Design” award at the Vishwakarma Awards 2023 for his groundbreaking IoT-enabled water quality monitoring device, R-SAM-PRO. This award recognizes the device’s exceptional innovation in addressing critical water and sanitation challenges, especially in developing nations.

The Vishwakarma Awards, organized by IIT Delhi in collaboration with Maker Bhavan Foundation and the WIN Foundation, aim to identify and support technological innovation in science and engineering colleges across India. The theme for the 2023 edition was Water & Sanitation, Clean Technology & Smart Mobility.

Satyam’s R-SAM-PRO stands out for its affordability, accessibility, and real-time data transmission capabilities. Priced at around 12,000 rupees, it presents a stark contrast to existing water quality monitoring devices that cost over 2 lakhs rupees and lack IoT integration.

Prof. Sanjukta Patra from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Guwahati praised Satyam’s dedication, stating that the device reflects a deep understanding of water resource management challenges. The device’s affordability, accessibility, and real-time data transmission capabilities make it a beacon of technological advancement with the potential for widespread adoption, particularly in resource-limited settings.

  2. Diverse Sensors: Measures turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), oxygen levels, temperature, and pressure for comprehensive water quality analysis.
  3. ESP32 Microprocessor: Powers the device with efficient processing and communication capabilities.
  4. Hybrid Power System: Ensures adaptability to different environments, reducing reliance on a single power source.
  5. AI Integration: Designed to incorporate artificial intelligence, enhancing data analysis and predictive capabilities.
