House burnt down for alleged practice of witchcraft

A property at the Saba Village, bordering Meghalaya with Assam was burnt down completely and all family members living in it were expelled from the village on the allegation of practising witchcraft. The incident took place on the 14th and 15th of May 2022 and a report on file on the 17th of May 2022.

As per reports from Shillong Times, the property belonged to Nijanduh Phawa who has been alleged by the villagers to have been practising witchcraft. The village darbar shnong had to expel the family from the village.

According to police reports, Phawa and her husband Nicholas Nartiang lodged a complaint at the Nartiang Police Station. The report states that the headman with the executive members vandalised the property of Phawa and burnt it down completely.

The West Jaintia Hills Superintendent, Bikram D Marak said that as of now, no arrest has been made in the case.
