Guwahati: 3 traffic constables thrashed by gang of 10 to 12 youths, 6 arrested

Three traffic police constables were allegedly beaten up in the city by a gang of ten to twelve youths after the officers ordered them to drive safely on the road.

The whole incident

According to a police complaint filed at the Pan Bazar police station by Utpal Gohain (constable), three police constables came out of their leased house on Yashwant road on Saturday to dispose of garbage when a speeding automobile with the registration number AS 01BY 0010 reportedly tried to hit them. 

When the driver was asked to drive properly, he allegedly began abusing them and threatening the traffic policemen with severe repercussions. 

A gang of 10 to 12 youths arrived in two four-wheeler cars around 1.30 a.m. and began assaulting the traffic police officers with lathis and stones on the road.

Case lodged against the culprits

A case was filed against the perpetrators under section 279/143/325/309/506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the police complaint, Pan Bazar PS case no. 599/21. 

Six people were arrested by municipal police on Sunday in connection with the incident

The arrested persons were identified as Anubhav Pandey (23), Pramod Das (23), Niraj Dutta (22), Himangshu Choudhury (23), Ankur Jyoti Rai (22) and Geet Shankar Mazumdar (23).
