Guwahati: Missing for five days, 55-year-old body recovered in mysteriously locked room

Guwahati: Dead body of a 55-year-old painter was recovered in a mysteriously locked room of house no. 24 at Laxmi Nagar area in Hatigaon on Monday evening.

The deceased

The deceased was later identified as Milan Chetri, a painter by profession who went missing for five days from November 18, 2021, according to the sources.

Locals spotted the body and reported it to police immediately. After the body was recovered, a case was registered in the Hatigaon Police Station and a detailed investigation is underway.

What do Police officials and sources say?

Police officials informed that severe knife injuries and cuts in the abdomen of the 55 years old deceased body of Milan Chetri were found after the recovery of the dead body and a dagger was also found from the spot.

As per sources, the deceased worked as housekeeper and caretaker in the house of Md. Ataur Rahman residing in Hatigaon, Guwahati Apart from his job as caretaker Milan also worked as a house-painter.

Locals informed the officials that he used to get involved in most of the clashes among the family members. He used to live with his family, which includes, his daughter, two sons and an elderly mother-in-law.

According to Guwahati Police, he was stabbed five days ago when he went missing.

Earlier incidents

Earlier a body of 14-year-old girl Dimpal Kumapati was recovered from a pool at a rented house in Uzan Bazar. Later, Guwahati police arrested Abhishek Gupta, the accused, and put him under judicial custody.
