A sign of relief for the guwahati residents, as bus fare will not be increased 70 % ; says transport Minister

The Guwahati All Assam Motor Transport Association or AAMTA submitted a
memorundam to the Transport ministry that amid the price rise of
fuel, the bus fare would have to be increase up till 70 per cent. The
minimum fare was to be increased to Rs 18.

The ministry on Transport on 8 th of April 2022, said that the above
mentioned memorundam cannot be sustained. And gave a stern
warning to the Transport Association that any such measures will
lead to cancelation of the licenses.
Prabin das who is the secretary General of the AAMTA said that
government has not thought about the well being of the people in
the transport sector. As the rise in fuel prices has affected them the
most. In addition, he further stated that since there is rise in the fuel
there seems a likely situation that the services that are directly linked
with the fuel price will also be increased. He added that the

Transport owners in guwahati also has to pay tax with increase in toll tax and
third party premium. These have raised to 13 per cent.
The mechanical products of the bus like Tyre, lubricant has also seen
a rise in the price which has led them to take the step of increasing
the fare.
On part of the government, no financial assistance has been
provided to the Transport owners and workers who were worst hit
by the pandemic.
