Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 47th GST Council meeting on 29th June 2022. The meeting was conducted to ‘discuss the demand for an compensation paid to states for revenue loss from their taxes such as Sales Tax being consumed into a national GST besides a 28 per cent tax on casinos.’

GST Council Meeting; List of the items that will now get costlier
- Items such as pre-packed and labelled food items to attract 5 % GST. These items include – Meat, Fish, Curd, Paneer, and Honey.
- Additionally, an 18 per cent GST will be levied while cheque books are issued . Moreover, an additional 12 per cent will be levied on Maps, charts and atlases.
- Hotel rooms that are below Rs 1000 will now have and extra 12 per cent tax.
Rest, all good that are unpacked, unlabelled or the ones that do not have a branding will be exempted from GST.
Furthermore, the dates of implementation have not been decided as of now.
