With the Amendment to GMC Act, 1971, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has taken the initiative to break all barriers and hurdles in the path of growth and development in the city.
What will amending the Act bring?
-Through this Act, the Government will be empowered to increase the number of wards via official gazette notification.
-Amending the Act will initiate the formation of a Staff Selection Committee for speedy recruitment to vacant posts in Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
-The amendment will result in the introduction of new subjects like “acquisition of modern machinery” for drain cleaning, establishment, and maintenance of electric and gas-based cremation ground.
About GMC:
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation was formed in the year 1971 by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969, and the corporation was rightly constructed in the year 1974, in the first meeting of the elected councilors as per provision of Sec. 45 of this Act.
