Gauhati High Court’s judgement

The Gauhati High Court made this judgement after hearing a petition from APSC CCE hopefuls who demanded that the Assamese paper be removed from the exam.

With the announcement of this decision, the Assam government’s revised APSC CCE norms would take effect with the next test.

In a recent meeting, the Assam Cabinet approved revisions to the APSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE).

The Assam cabinet voted to “eliminate the language barrier in APSC civil service tests.”

“English and Assamese papers to be withdrawn subject to fulfilment of three conditions: candidate must be a resident of Assam, name must be registered in Assam’s employment exchange, and candidate must be fluent in speaking Assamese or other recognised languages of Assam,” according to an official statement.
