The Centre for Quality and Food Safety (CQFS) in Delhi designated Baroova, a famous Assamese scholar and nutritionist, a “Food Hero of India.”
Dr. Basanti Baroova, a well-known Assamese scholar and nutritionist, has been crowned a “Food Hero of India” by the Centre for Quality and Food Safety (CQFS) in Delhi.
Baroova honoured for contribution to child malnutrition eradication in India
She was honoured for her services to the reduction of child malnutrition in India, as well as her achievements in traditional food knowledge and nutrition education.
In the presence of authorities from the Food and Agricultural Organization as well as the Union Food Ministry, the award ceremony took place relatively recently.
This distinction was also given to four other prominent food technologists and farmers from all over the country.

Baroova credited in creating India’s first commercial weaning mix
She created Assam Mix, India’s first commercial weaning mix based on academic research and built with locally accessible Assamese cuisine.
Guwahati is where Assam Mix is made. She is located in Guwahati and also manages the Swadesh NGO, which focuses on maternal and infant nutrition development.
