Historic Screening of Suzume No Tojimari in Guwahati
The city of Guwahati in Northeast India recently witnessed a historic event on April 21, 2023, when Suzume No Tojimari, the famous Anime film by Makoto Shinkai, was screened for the first time in Assam. The screening was free and took place at Cinepolis Cinema Hall, where about 250 Anime fans gathered to watch the film.
The event was a collaboration between Spiel Times and Assam Senpai Society, two organizations dedicated to promoting Anime and Japanese culture in India. Cosplayers and attendees from over five different Anime clubs across Assam were present at the screening, bringing beloved Anime characters to life in their costumes. The audience was also given 50 Suzume posters by the Silchar Otaku Community, who travelled from Silchar to attend the event.
Pre-Show Event and Felicitation
Prior to the screening, the organizers held a pre-show event to introduce and felicitate the two organizations that collaborated to host the event. They also acknowledged the gathered dedication of all present, who called themselves Anime fans. The Cinepolis staff was inaugurated with a Phulam Gamusa, a traditional Assamese cloth, as a token of appreciation for their help in organizing the event.
The screening was a massive success, with the audience’s reactions being loud and enthusiastic. After the event, the cosplayers and attendees gathered for a photo session to mark the day’s memory. The audience also received Spiel Gaming T-shirt merchandise, Suzume posters, and live passes designed in a beautiful Suzume background.
Plans for Future Events and Bringing Director Makoto Shinkai to India
Spiel Times CEO, Pingal, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the director Makoto Shinkai himself to India in the future. However, his statement was more indicative of Spiel Times and Assam Senpai Society’s dedication to bringing all things Anime and Japanese culture to India rather than the physical embodiment of Shinkai himself.
Spiel Times is a well-known gaming press site based in Northeast India that has diversified into writing about Anime, cinema, and other news. The organization is also venturing into event management dedicated to passion, charity, and value to its targeted audience. On the other hand, Assam Senpai Society is a local organization with over 2000+ members in Discord, dedicated to promoting Anime and sharing the love for Japanese culture. The Society has hosted multiple successful online events, including Anime Roleplay, Debate, Quiz, and other themes. This is their second successful offline event, and they continue to gather a growing following of community members.
Overall, the event was a significant achievement for both Spiel Times and Assam Senpai Society, who collaborated to bring the free screening of Suzume No Tojimari to Guwahati. The event’s success was a testament to the growing community of Anime lovers in Northeast India, and it is hoped that this event will pave the way for more such screenings and events in the future.
The success of the free screening of Suzume no Tojimari has left a positive impact on the Anime community in Guwahati and Northeast India. It has not only provided a platform for Anime lovers to come together and enjoy their passion, but has also highlighted the growing interest in Japanese culture and its representation in various forms of media. The collaboration between Spiel Times and Assam Senpai Society has paved the way for more such events in the future, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement among the fans.
The success of this event has shown that there is a huge potential for Anime-related events in Northeast India, and that the community is ready and willing to support such initiative.
