Elon Musk’s announcement of the “new CEO” of Twitter
In a surprise move that has left the world in splits, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced the “new CEO” of Twitter in a tweet – his pet dog Floki. This comes after Musk had fired Twitter’s Indian-origin CEO Parag Agrawal right after he took over Twitter in late October last year.
Taking a dig at Agrawal, Elon Musk said that the “new CEO” is “much better than that other guy”. In a series of tweets early this morning, the billionaire entrepreneur shared photos of Floki seated at a table in the Twitter headquarters, dressed in an executive outfit. “The new CEO of Twitter is amazing,” he tweeted.

Musk also tweeted that the new Twitter CEO is “stylish, perfect for the job and great with numbers.” The Tesla CEO’s favourite cryptocurrency, Dogecoin, saw a significant rise in its price post this tweet. It was trading at $0.08291 just before the tweet today morning and then shot up nearly 5% to $0.8697 right after Musk’s tweet that introduced his dog as Twitter CEO.
Elon Musk’s previous statements on his desire to resign as Twitter CEO
It’s worth noting that Elon Musk had previously stated his desire to resign as Twitter CEO as soon as he found “someone foolish enough to take the job”. He had made this statement in December last year while responding to the results of his Twitter poll, which asked users whether he should step down as the head of Twitter. The poll ended with the majority of Twitter users voting in favour of him stepping down.
Before this poll, Elon Musk had also said that he does not want to be the CEO of any company. In November last year, while testifying at a trial in the US, he had said, “I frankly don’t want to be the CEO of any company. At SpaceX, it’s really that I’m responsible for the engineering of the rockets and Tesla for the technology in the car that makes it successful. So, CEO is often viewed as somewhat of a business-focused role, but in reality, my role is much more that of an engineer developing technology and making sure that we develop breakthrough technologies and that we have a team of incredible engineers who can achieve those goals.”
Concerns and criticisms raised over having a dog as the CEO of a major social media platform
However, it seems that Elon Musk has found a CEO who is “foolish enough” to take the job – his pet dog Floki. While this move may be seen as a playful prank by some, others have raised concerns about the potential consequences of having a dog as the CEO of a major social media platform.
Twitter, which has been under fire for its handling of misinformation and hate speech on its platform, has faced significant criticism from lawmakers and users alike. The company has been making efforts to improve its policies and practices, including hiring new executives and launching new initiatives to combat misinformation and hate speech.
It remains to be seen how Floki, the new CEO of Twitter, will address these challenges and lead the company forward. In the meantime, social media users have been having a field day with the news, with many expressing their amusement and disbelief at Musk’s latest move. As for the Twitter community, it remains to be seen whether they will embrace their new canine CEO or bark back at the decision.
