On Saturday, the Election Commission has announced the extension on the ban of rallies and roadshows ahead of elections in five states. The ban has been extended till January 22.
The reason behind the decision by Election Commission:
The order has been passed as the upcoming election of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur goes as safely as possible.
However, Indoor political meetings will be allowed with 300 people, 50 percent of the hall’s capacity, or the limit set by the state’s disaster management authority. Political parties must bear responsibility for the enforcement of rules, which include social distancing and the use of face masks.
Previously the top poll body had said rallies, roadshows, and other kinds of political events, indoors and outdoors, would be banned till January 15 (today), and that the order would then be reviewed.
